Trip Report: Six Senses Kanuhura, Maldives
A Paradise Found in Lhaviyani Atoll
Our recent stay at Six Senses Kanuhura in the Maldives was a tropical dream come true. Located on a naturally stunning island in the Lhaviyani Atoll, the resort is a serene sanctuary with breathtaking beaches. The journey to this paradise was a delightful 50-minute seaplane ride, culminating in a warm welcome by the friendly resort staff.
The Water Villa Experience
Although Six Senses Kanuhura is known for its luxurious beach villas, we opted for a water villa, my perennial favorite. The villa's design was a perfect blend of elegance and functionality, featuring a bright, glassed bathroom with double sinks, a soaking tub, and both indoor and outdoor showers. A suspended hammock provided a mesmerizing view of the lagoon below, perfect for lounging and soaking in the scenery.
WORKING DESK
BEDROOM
LIVING AREA
The villa was thoughtfully equipped with a large walk-in closet stocked with natural toiletries and amenities, including a yoga mat, insect repellent, and soothing aloe vera. The strategically placed working desk offered a stunning ocean view through glass doors, making it a serene spot for writing or simply enjoying the view.
The king bed was plush and adorned with island-inspired decor, enhancing the tropical ambiance. A cozy sectional sofa in front of the bed was the perfect indoor lounging spot, complete with a coffee table displaying welcome treats like watermelon juice, local coconut snacks, fresh fruits, Louis Roederer champagne, and chocolates.
BATHROOM
Outdoor Bliss
The private pool, at a comfortable depth of 1.2 meters, was ideal for both swimmers and non-swimmers. Adjacent to the pool, a sunken lounge area on the deck provided a comfortable place to sunbathe. The deck also featured stairs leading directly into the lagoon, inviting us to explore the crystal-clear waters.
Culinary Delights
Dining at Six Senses Kanuhura was a delightful journey. Some of our favorite dining spots included:
- The Drift: Located on the separate island of Jennuhura, this venue offered an authentic Maldivian café experience.
- The Point: Known for its authentic southern Spanish cuisine, this restaurant served exquisite tapas.
- Bottega: An incredible Italian restaurant where the I enjoyed my comfort food - Arrabiatta.
Although I didn't swim in the two main pools – one in front of Sip and Sand (a casual lunch and dinner spot) and a round-shaped pool at Sunset Point above The Point restaurant – they looked stunning. Instead, I frequented the villa's private pool and indulged in the spa's jacuzzi and ice pool.
MY WATER VILLA
Unique Experiences
The resort offers unique activities like the Alchemist Lab, where guests can learn to make natural soaps and face washes, and the Earth Lab, which teaches the art of transforming waste into art and useful tools. These activities added an educational and eco-friendly dimension to our stay.
A highlight was the orchid garden, home to the exclusive Kanuhura orchid, found only on this island. This special touch made our experience at Six Senses Kanuhura truly unforgettable.
